Siblings testify against father in Eldoret

By TONY MUSISI

A seven-year-old girl and her two siblings have testified against their biological father at the Eldoret Law Courts, where he is accused of defiling them.

The siblings, aged seven, nine and 11, narrated their harrowing experiences in the hands of their father, Daniel Odunga, before Senior Resident Magistrate Daniel Sitati.

Odunga, who previously served as a pastor with the Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) Church in Vihiga County, has since been excommunicated from the church.

He later relocated from Vihiga to Uasin Gishu County, where he secured employment as a cleaner at a leading private institution on the outskirts of Eldoret City.

The seven-year-old girl, who appeared traumatised, told the packed courtroom that her father allegedly sexually assaulted her in the evening while her mother was in the kitchen preparing supper.

The court was thrown into disbelief as the girl pointed at her biological father as the person she accused of committing the offence.

According to the girl, she was allegedly defiled several times by her father.

“My father used to sexually assault me in the evening in our bedroom when our mother was in the kitchen preparing supper for us,” the minor told the court.

The girl said that after enduring the alleged abuse for several months, she decided to confide in one of her teachers about the ordeal she and her two siblings were allegedly experiencing at home.

The court heard that after receiving the information, the teacher shared it with colleagues, who resolved to report the matter to the police.

Police officers subsequently swung into action and arrested Odunga.

He was taken to Naiberi Police Station and placed in custody before being charged before an Eldoret court with three counts relating to indecent acts with a child, contrary to Section 11 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006, and defilement contrary to Section 8(1) and (2) of the same Act.

Odunga is accused that on diverse dates in June 2026 at Kapsit village in Kesses Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County, he intentionally and unlawfully defiled the minor, identified in court as VLO, aged seven.

He was also charged with allegedly defiling another daughter, identified as SVO, aged nine, at the same place and during the same period.

The accused was further charged with allegedly sexually assaulting his 11-year-old son, identified as MTO, at the same place and during the same period.

Odunga denied all the charges against him.

He is currently being held at Eldoret GK Remand Prison after the court denied him bond.

Two of the alleged victims have been placed at an Eldoret rescue centre following a court order intended to safeguard their safety and wellbeing.

The magistrate adjourned the case to September 24 for further hearing.
