Arsenal fans fined over disorderly victory celebrations

Eight supporters of English football club Arsenal F.C. from Eldoret were yesterday fined KSh500 each for disorderly conduct after being found guilty of drunken and disruptive behaviour while celebrating their team’s victory.
The ardent Arsenal fans were fined by Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Daniel Sitati after pleading guilty to charges of being drunk and disorderly.
The offence was committed on the night of May 20, 2026, at Kimumu Estate along the Eldoret-Iten highway in Uasin Gishu County.
The accused included David Kipchumba, James Mwangi, Peter Nyaucho, Omar Olentimama, Jesse Murei, Vincent Amoke, Peter Wambua and Gilbert Kurri.
The eight pleaded for leniency, promising the court they would not disturb public peace again.
Police officers on patrol arrested the fans after finding them celebrating loudly along the streets of Kimumu Estate while staggering and shouting under the influence of alcohol following Arsenal’s confirmation as Premier League champions for the first time since 2004.
The arrests followed complaints from residents and tenants within the estate over the fans’ conduct.
Magistrate Sitati cautioned football fans against disturbing public peace while celebrating their favourite teams, saying such actions amount to disorderly conduct under Section 33(1) as read with Section 33(2) of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act No. 14 of 2010.
The magistrate also urged Kenyan football fans to support local teams with the same enthusiasm they show foreign clubs.
“I just wonder why you people fancy celebrating and shouting over foreign teams when they win the Premier League at the expense of our local football clubs,” posed Sitati.
He encouraged fans to also celebrate local football giants such as Gor Mahia F.C. and Tusker F.C. whenever they perform well in national and regional competitions.
