A Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agent was on Sunday afternoon detained at the JKIA after he was found with a loaded Ceska pistol magazine.
The American was travelling to Entebbe via Kenya Airways, flight KQ414, which was to depart JKIA at 12.30pm.
Security officers at the Central screening area recovered the magazine which was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition and detained the agent for interrogation.
According to the regulations, passengers are not permitted to carry guns, firearms and weapons including component parts of firearms into security restricted areas or on board an aircraft.
Following the recovery, officials from the multi-agency team convened a meeting and it was established that the American was an FBI agent as well as a trainer with the DCI’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).
The magazine was confiscated and handed over to ATPU JKIA for custody before he was allowed to board and proceed to Entebbe.
Detectives said the magazine will be handed over to the agent upon his return to Nairobi.
Last month, Kenya Airways officials also confiscated the firearm of Corporal Moses Wairegi attached to the Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe after he accidentally discharged one round while performing the normal safety precautions.
The incident took place inside the Kenya Airways office at Terminal 1D, according to the officials. The officer was accompanying CS Kagwe to Mombasa.
