GSU officer charged with nurse’s murder

By TONY MUSISI

A General Service Unit (GSU) police officer attached to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has been charged with the murder of a nurse who was allegedly shot dead in a suspected love triangle.

Nathan Kirwa appeared before Eldoret High Court Judge Anthony Ndung’u after a mental assessment report from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital declared him fit to stand trial.

Kirwa denied the murder charge and was ordered to remain in custody pending a ruling on his release on bail or bond scheduled for October 15, 2026.

He is accused of killing Doris Murei, 45, on August 30, 2026, at the GSU canteen near Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County.

The officer was arrested along the Southern Bypass in Kapseret after a six-hour manhunt following the fatal shooting, in which he was identified as the prime suspect.

According to a police report, Kirwa arrived at a pub armed with a concealed firearm before allegedly walking directly towards Murei and opening fire.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilberforce Sicharani confirmed the incident, saying the officer fired five shots at the nurse, killing her at the scene.

“He went straight to the lady whose name is Doris Murei, who is popularly known as Dori, and began shooting her. He shot her five times,” Sicharani said.

Murei was later buried at her husband’s home in Chemalingot area, Tiaty Sub-county, Baringo County.

The court directed that Kirwa be escorted to Eldoret GK Remand Prison as he awaits the ruling on his bail or bond application.
