Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Urban Development, Housing and Roads Nathaniel Nganga has dared his rival, Musyoka Kala, to make good his threat to sue him over his intention to contest the Machakos senatorial seat in 2027.
Speaking on a local radio station yesterday, Nganga said he had yet to formally declare his candidacy but would join the race when the time was right.
He challenged Kala to file the suit if he had evidence to support his allegations.
“Those are noises from a coward. Why is he afraid? Why not talk to voters and convince them to vote for him? What I have been telling residents is that when the time comes, I will be in the race for the Senate seat,” Nganga said.
“I am ready to face him in court if he has evidence that I am campaigning while in office. The problem with some Kambas is cowardice. We were weaned on ogre narratives that taught us to be afraid, such that when it comes to speaking about real issues, we are afraid to ask the tough questions. If he is already cowering at the mention of my candidature, how will he stand to defend our people in the Senate if elected? Does he have the capacity?” he posed.
Nganga, a former Deputy Speaker of the Machakos County Assembly, questioned Kala’s understanding of the law, noting that he had initially trained as a teacher before studying law.
He argued that, as a county executive committee member, he is a State officer rather than a public officer and that the law does not bar him from expressing interest in a political seat he intends to contest in the future.
On Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua’s reported interest in the senatorial seat, Nganga said the former Machakos governor had nothing new to offer residents after serving two terms in office.
He advised Mutua to venture into the tourism industry and use his aircraft to transport passengers, noting that he had since become a pilot.
Nganga further claimed that Mutua and his allies were being used to undermine Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential bid, but insisted their efforts would not succeed.
