Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has maintained that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to fulfilling its manifesto and delivering development projects across the country.
Kindiki said the government was implementing various projects aimed at improving the lives and livelihoods of Kenyans.
Speaking in Murang’a during a tour to inspect ongoing development projects, the Deputy President said none of the government’s promises would be abandoned.
“We want to make sure we implement all our commitments and pledges sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, and I have no contradiction that we are going to deliver,” said Kindiki.
“I am among the people who wrote that manifesto and I look at the progress being made every day because I know all the details in it,” he added.
He cited the construction of roads, modern markets, affordable housing and stadia as some of the major projects being implemented by the government.
Kindiki also said the government had made deliberate efforts to revive the agricultural sector by reducing the cost of farm inputs and lowering production costs.
“We want the farmers to go back to their farms and be able to produce more food at a lesser cost,” said Kindiki.
“The government has also ensured better prices for tea, coffee and milk, and the farmers are getting more from the products than they did before,” he added.
The Deputy President criticised opposition leaders who claim the government has done little, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration had a development record that compared favourably with previous regimes.
He expressed confidence that the government’s development agenda and achievements would help it secure a second term in office.
“We have development projects all over the country and I don’t understand the problem with some people who are claiming nothing has been done,” he said.
“All those seeking to be elected have been in various positions in government and they should tell us what they did,” added Kindiki.
On the unity of the Mt Kenya region, Kindiki said he would firmly support efforts to keep the region united, dismissing attempts to divide its people.
He said that during his coronation as the region’s kingpin, elders handed him the leadership mantle and gave him the responsibility of uniting the people.
“We must stay together. We cannot be separated. We are one people, one community. Mt Kenya is one,” he insisted.
He also urged residents not to fall prey to politicians inciting violence against one another because of their political affiliations.
“It is okay to choose whoever you want to support because it is your right. But we will not allow violence to rein in the region. We cannot allow some to destroy people’s properties because of politics,” he added.
The Deputy President also cautioned residents living in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant following forecasts of enhanced rainfall.
Kindiki urged residents to comply with any evacuation orders issued by the government and move to safer areas to avert loss of lives.
“Don’t stay there and wait for death. Move if told to, and we are going to give the necessary support to those who will be affected,” he added.
