A 49-year-old man has been arraigned in an Eldoret court for assaulting his mother while under the influence of alcohol after she refused to cook supper for him.
Luka Kipkemoi, alias Pastor, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Areri, where he pleaded guilty to attacking his mother, Dinah Kwambai, after returning home from a drinking spree at a local pub.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on March 26, 2025, in Kipsinende area, Moiben Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County, where Kipkemoi assaulted his mother, causing her actual bodily harm.
The accused shocked the court by admitting he wanted to “teach his mother a lesson” for refusing to cook and serve him supper. “Your Honour, it is true that I assaulted my mother by twisting her right hand, causing her harm, after she refused to cook and serve me food,” Kipkemoi said. He pleaded for leniency, explaining he acted under the influence of alcohol and promised not to repeat the offence.
The prosecution told the court that Kipkemoi arrived at his mother’s home while intoxicated and demanded supper. When his elderly mother declined, he confronted her in the kitchen, vowing to punish her for disobeying him. The complainant attempted to flee but was overpowered, with her son grabbing and twisting her right hand, causing serious injuries. She raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to her rescue.
Upon seeing the crowd gathering, Kipkemoi fled and reportedly went into hiding for over a year before his arrest last week.
In a dramatic turn, Kwambai told the court she no longer wishes to associate with her son and urged the court to keep him away, calling him a threat to her safety. “I do not want to see my son back home. He is a threat to my life and that of the community,” she said. She also alleged that he is a suspect in a separate murder case in their home area and asked the court not to grant leniency.
Magistrate Areri directed that the accused be remanded at GK Prison to allow verification of his criminal record, as alleged by his mother, ahead of sentencing.
The case will be mentioned on April 13, 2026, to confirm whether Kipkemoi has any previous criminal records.
