Kingdom Bank Branches Out to Power County Enterprise Growth

Kingdom Bank has opened a new branch in Bungoma County, its 24th nationwide, as part of a strategic plan to grow its presence in high-potential counties and expand access to credit for farmers, traders, and small businesses.

The lender said the branch expansion reflects its ongoing commitment to support local enterprise through a mix of affordable lending, financial literacy, and digital banking programs designed to stimulate county-level economic growth.

“Bungoma County sits as a key agricultural powerhouse for the country,” said Kingdom Bank Managing Director and CEO, Antony Mburu. “Our presence here positions us to work alongside farmers, entrepreneurs, and businesses — offering solutions that combine flexibility, affordability, and convenience.”

The new outlet, the second in the Western Kenya region, is expected to catalyse growth in agribusiness and trade, providing credit lines and working capital solutions to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Bungoma’s vibrant economy, driven by sugarcane, maize, and dairy farming, is complemented by a fast-growing retail and hospitality sector. Local hotels, agro-traders, and market cooperatives stand to benefit from the bank’s payment, cash management, and digital collection systems.

The county’s expansive Chwele Market — among the largest open-air markets in Kenya — presents fresh opportunities for Kingdom Bank’s Faidi Dada program, a flagship women-focused financial solution aimed at boosting financial inclusion and enterprise development among female entrepreneurs.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka lauded the bank’s move, describing it as a show of confidence in the county’s business ecosystem. “When a financial institution like Kingdom Bank invests here, it sends a message that Bungoma is open for business,” he said.

County officials say financial inclusion remains key to unlocking the full potential of devolved units, particularly in regions where farmers and traders often rely on informal financing networks.

Kingdom Bank executives said the new branch is a milestone in their broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with local communities and support value chain financing in agriculture, trade, and manufacturing.

“Our expansion is about deepening our engagement with Kenya’s productive sectors — helping small businesses grow, improving access to affordable credit, and driving shared prosperity,” Mr. Mburu added.

With 24 branches across Kenya and a growing digital footprint, Kingdom Bank continues to position itself as a preferred lender for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and retail customers seeking flexible, modern banking solutions.

The bank said it will continue to scale up investments in counties with rising economic potential, leveraging technology and local partnerships to reach underserved communities and stimulate inclusive growth.
