The cities of Madrid and Barcelona face off

LALIGA EA SPORTS

Matchday 5 is just around the corner, with the top four teams set to face off against each other. Adding to the excitement is the fact that this is a double clash between the cities of Madrid and Barcelona. League leaders Real Madrid will host third-placed RCD Espanyol, while second-placed FC Barcelona takes on Getafe CF, currently joint-fourth in the table.

Real Madrid vs RCD Espanyol: Both teams seek to remain unbeaten. On Saturday, the Bernabéu will host a duel between two of the three teams—along with FC Barcelona—that are still undefeated in the league. Real Madrid, having won all their first three matches of the season, also secured a hard-fought victory away at Real Sociedad last weekend. Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first half. Despite Dean Huijsen’s sending off just after the half-hour mark, the visitors doubled their lead through Arda Güler before the break. Mikel Oyarzabal pulled one back from the spot after the interval, but Real Madrid maintained their lead to record their fourth straight victory.

Meanwhile, one of the most entertaining games of Matchday 4 took place in Catalonia, where RCD Espanyol hosted RCD Mallorca on Monday. Pere Milla and Roberto Fernández gave Manolo González’s side a two-goal lead, only to have Vedat Muriqi’s brace cancel it out. Kike García then converted a penalty to help RCD Espanyol clinch all three points. Having recorded three victories and one draw, Los Periquitos are currently one of the hottest teams in LALIGA EA SPORTS.

However, RCD Espanyol faces an uphill battle against Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid. The Catalan team has lost 25 of their last 27 games away at Real Madrid, with their last win in the Spanish capital dating back to 1996. They have scored in just four of their last 14 matches at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid has won 10 consecutive games. The last time Espanyol drew in Madrid was in the 2012/13 season, with a 2-2 result. It remains to be seen if either or both teams will keep their unbeaten run intact.

FC Barcelona vs Getafe CF: Getafe looks to break the away curse. One day later in Catalonia, FC Barcelona will host Getafe CF, who have started the 2025/26 campaign impressively, winning three of their first four games, including a 2-0 win over Real Oviedo. Goals from Mario Martín and Borja Mayoral, assisted by Luis Milla, secured that victory. Meanwhile, after dropping two points away at Rayo Vallecano before the international break, FC Barcelona bounced back emphatically with a 6-0 thrashing of Valencia CF. Fermín López, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski each bagged a brace, enhancing Barça’s standing as the league’s top attacking side with 13 goals in four matches.

The head-to-head record favors FC Barcelona, as Los Blaugrana have never lost at home against Getafe CF.
