Technician held over alleged defilement of stepdaughter

By TONY MUSISI

Police in Eldoret have arrested a technician accused of defiling and impregnating his 11-year-old stepdaughter, identified by the initials S.B. to protect her identity.

The suspect, Newton Miheso, was arrested by detectives from Huruma Police Station led by investigating officer Esther Nawire at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), where the girl is receiving treatment.

Turbo police confirmed the arrest, saying Miheso is expected to face an incest-related charge before an Eldoret court.

Miheso had been on the run for about a week before detectives arrested him when he went to check on the girl, who was recuperating at the hospital.

Police allege that the suspect had coerced the girl into undergoing an abortion, resulting in the removal of a four-month-old foetus.

The child, who has limited ability to speak and walk without assistance, has since been placed under the care and protection of the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital at MTRH.

Miheso was later arraigned before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga in connection with the incest allegations but was not allowed to take plea.

This was after Nawire told the court that investigators were yet to subject the foetus to DNA testing to establish its biological relationship with the suspect.

“Your honour, we are kindly asking that you grant us 14 days to enable MTRH to extract samples from the alleged perpetrator and the foetus for forensic examination at the Government Chemist in Kisumu to prove their relationship,” Nawire told the court in a miscellaneous application dated October 5, 2026.

She further informed the court that investigators were yet to record statements from key witnesses expected to testify against the suspect.

Nawire asked the court to detain Miheso pending completion of investigations into the allegations.

The court granted the prosecution’s request, ordering that the suspect be held at Eldoret Police Station for 21 days.

Chief Magistrate Ndwiga directed that the matter be mentioned on October 26, 2026, for further directions.
